A DROP in grade and a road trip up the highway has reaped rewards for connections of Raise An Army.
The six-year-old gelding broke through for a confidence-boosting win in a Benchmark 65 (1600m) at Rockhampton on Thursday, February 27.
Ridden by Adam Sewell, Raise An Army ($5) raced in second before joining the leader at the 600m mark and then held on down the long Rocky straight to win comfortably by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
The breakthrough came after the horse placed over a mile at Doomben in a Class 1 last start.
“The drop in class from midweek city grade made a big difference,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“He’s been a good money earner but has just been very frustrating,” he said.
“He’ll come back now and see if he can break through again.”
