KENDRICK Racing’s run of success “up the road” has been extended with a winning double in Rockhampton.
Superare (main photo) kicked the double off on Tuesday (March 7) before Canny Impact (second photo) made it two wins in a row on the Rockhampton circuit.
“We sent Superare north just to try to get his confidence back up and a win on the board,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“He has been very consistent in strong grade in south-east Queensland,” he said.
Ridden by Justin Huxtable, Superare ($1.55-fav) got the job done in an Open (1050m).
He didn’t get it all his own way, having to knuckle down late to overcome leader Poet’s Girl.
“He wanted to have a look around the long Callaghan Pak straight,” Huxtable said.
Kendrick said it was a good, tough win.
“He had plenty of weight (61.5kg) and conceded the runner-up 10kg, but did a good job to post the win.”
Canny Impact, a $3.40-equal favourite, led and also had to dig in to hold off betting ring rival Antagoniser in a Benchmark 65 (1300m).
Apprentice Melea Castle’s 2.5kg claim proved crucial over the concluding stages.
“Canny Impact did a great job skipping up from a maiden (win) straight to a Benchmark 65,” Kendrick said.
“He did well to lead all the way and hold on to make it two in a row.”
