Seneschal finally got the reward for his consistency with a strong all-the-way midweek city win.
Sent out as the $3.80 favourite, the Stuart Kendrick-trained gelding jumped cleanly under Ben Thompson and controlled the race from the front, never giving his rivals a chance in the Class 5 (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday (November 12).
Kendrick was full of praise for both horse and rider after the victory.
“He’s been a bit unlucky this horse, and he’s been so consistent…and that’s probably a race he deserved to win,” Kendrick said.
“I just left it up to Ben. I said, look, just get him out of the gates,” he said.
“The other day, he was slow out, which made it a little bit tricky.
“He just took luck out of the equation, (today) and we were pretty happy at the turn.”
The win was only Seneschal’s third from a string of honest performances, something Kendrick admitted had been frustrating.
“For a horse that’s been so consistent, to get just those two (previous) wins, it’s been a bit frustrating,” he said.
“But he did a great job today, so it was really good. The owners have been patient, and it is good to get a win on the board.”
