Retainer’s winning ways just keep rolling on.
She maintained her excellent form with a strong win in a Class 4 (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday (March 29), justifying her favouritism at $4.40.
Trained by Stuart Kendrick and ridden patiently by apprentice Steph Tierney, the well-bred mare settled into a comfortable rhythm before being produced at precisely the right moment in the straight.
She quickened impressively to draw clear late, scoring by a little over a length and winning with something in hand.
Kendrick was full of praise for both the mare and her rider, highlighting Retainer’s consistency and adaptability as she continues to progress through the grades.
“She’s now made it three wins from her last four starts and she’s showing that the 1600 metres was no concern today,” Kendrick said.
“Steph rode her a treat. She produced her at exactly the right time and Retainer sprinted quickly to win going away,” he said.
The win adds further depth to Retainer’s race record and reinforces her value as a broodmare prospect, a factor not lost on her trainer when discussing future plans.
“We’ll look to now have a crack at a metropolitan race,” Kendrick said. “She’s a very well-bred mare and getting that city win will really improve her pedigree.”
