Two fleet-footed performers have given Stuart Kendrick Racing a winning double at Rockhampton on Tuesday, with Another Champers and Maximum Output producing all-the-way wins over 1050 metres.
Talented three-year-old filly Another Champers ($1.60-fav), ridden by apprentice Steph Tierney, set the tone early in the afternoon on Tuesday (August 25), leading throughout to comfortably claim a QTIS 3YO Handicap.
She crossed the line one-and-a-quarter lengths clear after running her rivals ragged from the front.
Kendrick was delighted to see the daughter of Better Than Ready return to the winner’s stall.
“It was a dominant win,” Kendrick said.
“It was a good confidence builder and she ran very quick time,” he said.
“Hopefully, she can now come back to south-east Queensland and put a win on the board here.”
The victory added further value to her already impressive QTIS earnings.
“With the QTIS bonuses, she has already won nearly $70,000 from her two wins,” Kendrick said.
Later in the program, experienced campaigner Maximum Output ($3.40-fav) completed the stable double when he also controlled proceedings from the front in the Open Handicap.
Partnered by apprentice Kayla Johnston, the tough gelding held off his challengers to score by a length despite carrying a hefty 61 kilograms.
Kendrick praised the veteran sprinter’s toughness after another determined performance.
“Maximum Output again showed plenty of heart to carry 61 kilos and run just outside the track record,” he said.
“He is a very genuine horse who has now won over $400,000 in prize money, winning 10 races and having been placed 21 times.”
The trainer said Johnston’s valuable claim proved decisive in a race run at a genuine speed.
“The three-kilo claim for Kayla Johnston was crucial as there was a hot speed and he had to overcome plenty of early pressure,” Kendrick said.
“It’ll be great to have a stable full of horses like him.”
