Just Precious, ridden by Jag Guthmann-Chester, winning her third metropolitan race in a row at Doomben.

Inform mare Just Precious is making a habit of winning metropolitan races.

She continued her remarkable run of success in town when she notched her third consecutive metropolitan victory this preparation with a determined win in the Class 6 Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday (October 17).

The five-year-old, prepared by the Stuart and Bayley Kendrick, was sent out the $3.90 favourite and justified that support with another professional performance under jockey Jag Guthmann-Chester.

After settling in a favourable position from a good draw, Just Precious travelled strongly throughout and found plenty in the straight to score by three-quarters of a length, extending an impressive winning sequence since returning from a spell.

Co-trainer Bayley Kendrick said a combination of improved hoof health and favourable racing conditions had been key to the mare’s recent success.

“She’s going really well,” Kendrick said.

“She’s had a lot of issues and credit to our farrier for doing a very good job getting our feet right, and it’s just made all the difference for her,” he said.

“Barriers (also) make a difference too, so everything’s been in her favour as well.”

The win was the second in two days for the stable, also scoring at headquarters on a raining Friday night with Miss Funny Honey ($8).

The four-year-old mare, ridden by Steph Tierney, won a Benchmark 65 (1200m) nearly a length in testing conditions on a deteriorating Heavy 8 track at Caloundra.
