Kaffir Lily has broken through at her second run for Kendrick Racing with a slick midweek city performance.
Trained by Stuart Kendrick and ridden by Jake Bayliss, Kaffir Lily overcame adversity to win a Benchmark 65 (1650m) on Wednesday (October 15).
Starting a $4 equal favourite, the promising filly showed her class by surging home to win by three-quarters of a length, adding a valuable city success to her pedigree.
Kendrick was full of praise for the four-year-old’s effort and her jockey’s tactical ride.
“It was a very good win from the filly,” Kendrick said. “It puts a city win on her pedigree and it looks like there will be more in store for her,” he said.
Despite finding herself in a tricky position mid-race, Bayliss navigated Kaffir Lily through traffic and produced her at the right moment.
“It was a very good ride from Jake,” Kendrick added. “He got into an awkward spot and squeezed up around the turn, but when she saw daylight, she really hit the line well.”
With this win under her belt, Kaffir Lily looks set to continue her rise through the ranks.
“I think she will appreciate getting over a longer trip and be a very nice filly when she matures more,” Kendrick said.
