The Rockhampton Newmarket is on the radar for Master Showman after his win in the beef capital.

Master Showman bounced back to the winner’s stall with a strong performance on Thursday (January 29), taking out an Open (1100m) in convincing fashion.

Trained by Stuart Kendrick and ridden by apprentice Stephanie Tierney, the gelding started a $6 chance and proved too strong in the run home, scoring by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

Despite carrying his share of the weight, Master Showman was afforded a patient and composed ride by Tierney, who settled just behind the early speed before producing him at the right moment in the straight.

“It was good to see Master Showman back in the winner’s stall,” Kendrick said.

“He had plenty of weight, but a good ride by Steph saw him sitting just behind the speed, got the split when needed and he was too strong, winning going away.”

With confidence restored, Kendrick indicated the win could open the door to bigger targets.

“He could be a horse to target a race like the Rocky Newmarket,” he said.
