Savannah Gangster, ridden by Ben Thompson, romped in at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.

Savannah Gangster has stamped his staying credentials with a commanding win at the Sunshine Coast.

Sent out as a $4.40 chance, the Stuart Kendrick-trained galloper was perfectly rated by jockey Ben Thompson, surging to the front early and never looking back to score by more than two lengths in a Class 4 (1800m) on Friday night (December 5).

Kendrick said a kinder draw and a drop in grade proved decisive.

“Savannah Gangster had a bit of luck and put himself in a position where he could win,” Kendrick said.

“He has been a horse that’s drawn badly over his last few starts and still ran very well.

“Back in grade from his last start, he went straight to the front and showed that he is a tough staying horse holding on to win comfortably.”
Looking ahead, Kendrick confirmed bigger targets are on the horizon.
“We will now look to go to a metropolitan race probably over 2000m,” he said.
