Apprentice jockey Stephanie Tierney and trainer Stuart Kendrick have gone two from two at Rocky.
Tierney’s impeccable timing and composure were on full display as she steered both Retainer (main photo) and King Spirit (below) to convincing victories, each starting favourite and delivering with authority on Tuesday (February 17).
Kendrick was full of praise for his apprentice.
“Great rides by our apprentice Steph Tierney saw two winners from two starters,” Kendrick said.
“King Spirit made it two in a row. He has appreciated the slight drop in grade and balanced rides,” he said.
“Retainer, who was unlucky last start in town, showed she can put a few wins together, winning impressively.
“She is a well-bred mare and, hopefully, can come back to south-east Queensland and get a few wins.”
Retainer ($2.05 fav) was the first to deliver, travelling sweetly throughout the BM65 (1400m) before sprinting clear to score by two-and-a-half lengths.
The stable’s momentum continued later in the afternoon when King Spirit ($2.45 fav) proved too strong in the Class 4 Plate (1200m), kicking clear to win by one-and-a-half lengths and extend his winning streak.
