Warna has returned from a short spell how he went to the paddock – with a win.
The Written Tycoon four-year-old made a sparkling return to racing, winning a C&G Benchmark 58 (1400m) in commanding fashion on Friday (August 15).
Sent out a $4.20 chance, the Stuart Kendrick-trained gelding was given a perfect ride by Kyle Wilson-Taylor, settling just off the speed before unleashing a powerful finish to score by nearly a length.
It was his first run since winning on the Sunshine Coast poly in March.
Kendrick was full of praise for Warna following his win back on the turf and first-up from the freshen-up.
“It was a terrific return,” he said.
“He went out on a winning note after a good win on the poly.
“He was very immature early but has continued to improve and develop into a big, strong type.
“He should continue to get better over more ground.”
The win came after the stable nearly pulled off a huge boil-over earlier in the afternoon when Inside Passage finished runner-up in a 1400m Maiden after being sent out a $150 chance.
Stablemate Turbo Torque finished third in the same race.
