TRAINER Stuart Kendrick was philosophical after Heartoni had to share the spoils with a dead-heat win at the Sunshine Coast.
“It’s better than running second, that’s for sure,” Kendrick said after the judge couldn’t separate Heartoni ($2.25-fav), ridden by apprentice Shania Willis, and Uno Moon at the finish of a Class 5 (1000m) on Sunday, September 29.
“Obviously, nothing in it on the line,” he said.
“Look, he’s a tough, little horse. He kept trying.
“I thought he actually had the other horse beaten, so he’s done a good job to kick back on us.”
Heartoni was second-up from a spell.
He’d finished a solid fourth in good grade at Eagle Farm first-up.
The half-win means Heartoni keeps his unbeaten second-up record intact. He has now won all three of his runs second-up from a spell.
The four-year-old has an impressive record, with five wins and four seconds from 13 career starts.
