KENDRICK Racing’s Stuart Kendrick has become the first Sunshine Coast-based trainer to crack the 100 winners in a season milestone.
Fittingly, he did it as his home base at the Sunshine Coast poly track meeting on Sunday (May 5).
He had to wait for the milestone following some placings earlier in the afternoon.
But in race six, he cracked the ton when Enterprise Lassie ($1.95-fav), ridden by stable apprentice Cody Collis, scored a determined win in a Benchmark 62 (2000m).
The stable saddled up the quinella, with Enterprise Lassie holding off Tavistorm, which finished a close second.
The win took Kendrick to 100.5 winners for the season. The half-a-winner is by virtue of a dead-heat result.
Kendrick said he was feeling “better now” after completing the milestone.
“It was a tough day early, so I thought it mightn’t happen today,” he said.
“It’s been a massive job for the team. They’ve done a really good job.
“To get it at home is even better. Hopefully, we can keep it going from here.”
Kendrick Racing didn’t take long to bring up win number 101.5, with Enterprise Lucia winning the next.
Enterprise Lucia ($3.70-fav), also ridden by Collis, won a Benchmark 62 (1000m) firs-tup from a spell and at his first start for the stable since transferring north to Queensland.
The three-year-old filly came from well back to finish over the top of them, which isn’t easy to do on the poly track, making the win all the more impressive.
Both horses were bred and are raced by Brian Purtle.
