CONNECTIONS are considering a crack at a Magic Millions double with exciting four-year-old Redford.
The Aquis galloper made it five wins from seven starts with an amazing win in the 3YO and 4YO Rising Stars (1300m) on the opening day of the Magic Millions carnival, albeit at the Sunshine Coast, on Saturday (January 4).
“We’ll accept for the Magic Millions Cup and see how he does through the week,” trainer Stuart Kendrick said.
“If he doesn’t start, he’ll spell and then come back for the winter carnival,” he said.
Redford ($21) had to overcome a wide gate and top weight of 60kg.
“We dropped our bundle a bit when we saw the barrier (12), but it was a great ride by Kyle (Wilson-Taylor),” Kendrick said.
“He rode him perfectly,” he said.
Redford hauled in odds-on favourite Moravia to win in the final bounds in the Class 4 race.
“It’s a great result for Aquis. They have given us some really nice horses and this bloke is one of them,” Kendrick said.
Although the assignment looked tough for Redford from the tricky gate with the big weight, he did have the switch of venue in his favour.
The meeting was moved from the Gold Coast at the final hour following suspected vandalism of the glitter strip’s track.
That meant Redford only had to make the short trek from his oncourse stables, rather than the drive down the M1.
