ANOTHER feature race win by Defiant Spirit capped a big day for Kendrick Racing which book-ended the Doomben card.
Defiant Spirit ($8.50), a winner over the Magic Millions carnival two starts back, stormed home in the last race on Saturday (February 24).
Ridden by Robbie Dolan, he won the QTIS Jewel Prelude (1100m).
The Archer Park colours were back near the rear in the in the run, but the horse powered past them in the straight to win by one-and-three-quarter lengths going away from them.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said it was a brilliant win.
“He came off a very good run in the Magic Millions Guineas where he had no luck,’’ Kendrick said.
“He was ridden to perfection by Robbie, allowing him to find his feet before bullocking through the tight runs to finish strongly.
“He will now head to the $500,0000 3YO Jewel in a fortnight at the Gold Coast.”
Earlier, the stable won the first race when Disputed River made it back-to-back wins in a Benchmark 68 (2020m).
Coming off a last-start win at Eagle Farm over 1845m, Disputed River ($12), ridden by Jake Bayliss, proved too strong again over a trip.
“He has appreciated getting up in distance and has now put two Brisbane wins together,’’ Kendrick said.
“Hopefully, he can keep improving and possibly head to the provincial cups,’’ he said.
