IT was a “Fab Five” weekend for Kendrick Racing and the stable’s connections.
Four winners in one day at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday followed a Gold Coast win the day before.
Throw in an Ipswich win last Thursday and the stable had six winners in four days.
“It was a great weekend,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“Winning is a huge buzz and to have so many in such a short space of time is a well-deserved reward for our hard-working staff, owners and supporters,” he said.
Pronto Vincento kicked of the weekend of wins with a strong victory on the Gold Coast poly in a Maiden (1200m) on Saturday.
Ridden by apprentice Bailey Wheeler, Pronto Vincento ($6) broke through second-up from a spell and at his third career start.
He finished strongly over the top of them to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
“His work had been good and we were expecting him to be hard to beat,” Kendrick said.
Win Burn and Torque Espagna also ran solid seconds at the Gold Coast meeting.
Sunday at the Sunshine Coast was a day out to remember, with four wins, two seconds and a third.
Gerrymander kicked things off on a positive note, winning the first, a Maiden (1200m).
Ridden by apprentice Montana Philpot, Gerrymander ($4.60), which has been working well, broke through second-up from a spell and at career start number 12, winning by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
“She (Gerrymander) had strong form last prep and put it all together to win with authority,” Kendrick said.
It was Philpot’s first winner back at the Sunshine Coast since returning from injury.
Torque I Tee ($15), ridden by Andrew Mallyon, kept the ball rolling, winning a QTIS 2YO (1000m) by three-quarters of a length.
“He had disappointed at his first two runs from a spell, but with a couple of significant gear changes and a great ride from Andrew Mallyon, he got back in the winner’s stall,” Kendrick said.
“Hopefully, he goes on to win a nice race over the carnival,” he said.
Later, promising three-year-old Lost In Transit showed he was a class above them in a Benchmark 62 (1200m).
Ridden by Ryan Maloney, who was full of confidence after his Doomben Cup win a day before, Lost In Transit ($4.40) spaced them, winning by more than four lengths.
Kendrick said it was great to see the horse go on with it after his last-start Eagle Farm win.
“He was strong through the line and got a glowing report from Ryan Maloney,” he said.
After so many winners, Pocket Full was an aptly named winner of the last, topping off a wonderful day.
Ridden by Justin Huxtable, Pocket Full ($3) won a strong Class 2 (1000m) by a half-length.
“He beat a quality field and should be very competitive over the carnival,” said Kendrick.
Zoumeteor also ran well in the race to finish third at juicy $31 odds and $6 the place.
