TWO Kendrick Racing winners are now eyeing repeat success in two weeks at the big Caloundra Cup Day metropolitan meeting.
Two-year-old Spirit Of Brodie (main photo) kicked off the Sunday afternoon double before Win Burn backed up two good runs on the Gold Coast poly track with a tearaway win later in the afternoon.
Spirit Of Brodie ($2.70), ridden by James Orman, broke through after a freshen-up at his third career start in a QTIS 2YO C&G Maiden (1000m).
He looked under siege but kicked back strongly on the inside to upset odds-on favourite Ser Joh.
“He showed plenty last prep but has been very immature,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“He has come back from a spell really well and should improve with that run under his belt,” he said.
“He’ll head to a two-year-old race on (Caloundra) Cup Day.”
Win Burn ($2.60-fav), well ridden on the speed on a track that was favouring leaders with the rail out, gave nothing else a chance in a 0-62 Handicap (1200m).
He stacked them up before racing away to win by two-and-a-half lengths.
“Win Burn had run two very good races (at the Gold Coast) and back on the turf today was rated perfectly by our apprentice Montana Philpot,” said Kendrick.
“He will head to the provincial sprint race on Cup Day,” he said.
