KENDRICK Racing and inform apprentice Bailey Wheeler had a red-letter weekend when they combined for three winners, including metropolitan success, over two days.
Tried horse purchase Tidal Creek (main photo) won at his second run for the stable at Doomben on Saturday, with Wheeler aboard.
The celebrations had barely finished when the Kendrick-Wheeler combination struck for a double in the opening two races at Caloundra on Sunday.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Tidal Creek was impressive second-up, winning a Class 4 (1615m) easily as a $4.80 chance.
“He’s a tried horse we purchased off the Inglis Sales,” he said.
“He has a bright future. He’s only lightly raced and can run up to 2000 metres.
“It was a great ride by Bailey Wheler.”
Show Me Mercy’s win in a 3YO Benchmark 62 (1000m) as a short odds-on favourite on Sunday was a satisfying win for connections.
“We had a big opinion of him after his first win and were aiming at the Magic Millions,” Kendrick said.
“Unfortunately, he had knee issues and hadn’t raced for nearly 12 months,” he said.
“He’s a big strong gelding now and I think he is a carnival type.”
Rustic Boom had been unlucky in four career starts before his breakthrough in a Maiden SW (1000m) as a $6 chance.
“He had to do it tough again after jumping from the outside gate, but showed he has good ability to run down the odds-on favourite,” said Kendrick.
“He should be a good city class horse,” he said.
