A CHANGE in race tactics is paying dividends for connections of Zhaung Shi.
“He has always shown a lot of ability, but now we keep him fresh, ride him quiet, and he hits the line hard,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“We originally thought he was a front-runner over 1600 metres plus,” he said.
Zhaung Shi ($6), ridden by Jake Bayliss, finished strongly to win a Summer Provincial Sprint Series Heat Benchmark 75 (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast Friday night meeting on November 24.
The Krew Racing-syndicated galloper was first emergency for the race before gaining a run.
It was his second win in a row after scoring over the same course and distance back in September. He’d trialled in between the two runs.
“He will head to the Magic Millions Country Cup on Magic Millions Day,” said Kendrick.
The horse has now won four of 11 career starts.
