TRAINER Stuart Kendrick will “throw a nomination in” for The Gateway with inform galloper Tojaki.
The four-year-old Zoustar mare has hardly missed a beat since joining the stable, winning four of five runs.
Her latest success came with a freewheeling effort in front in a Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday, November 25.
Ridden by Robbie Dolan, Tojaki ($3.20) upset odds-on favourite Midnight In Tokyo by a half-length.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Dolan rode the horse perfectly.
“We just wanted to get the favourite out of its comfort zone. We knew it had a quick sprint,” he said.
“When they left her (Tojaki) alone out in front I was pretty happy.
“He (Dolan) just started to increase that pressure from the 600. We just wanted to drag that sprint out.
“We knew she’d be strong at the end. He rode her perfectly.
“We’ll throw a nom in for The Gateway and see where we end up after that. Hopefully, she’ll appreciate that big track across the road.”
The Gateway is a $250,000 race for three and four-year-olds over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm.
