PROMISING mare Tojaki showed she’s back near her best with a strong metropolitan win at Eagle Farm.
She broke through third-up from a short spell in a Class 6 Plate (1400m) on Saturday, April 20.
Ridden by Robbie Dolan, Tojaki ($3.50-fav) showed she could be a contender for a nice race over the winter carnival.
She was back in the run but finished strongly down the outside to win by nearly three-and-a-half lengths.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said it was good to see her breakthrough after a couple of frustrating runs back from the freshen-up.
“She got out into the open spaces, it let her wind up, and she got the job,” Kendrick said.
“She has been back amongst them. We had to give her that second 1200-metre run (last start) to get her up today to the 1400, which was the plan,” he said.
Kendrick said he had targeted this race to hopefully then head on towards some better races.
“It was good to see her do that today. She’s a promising mare.
“A race like the Silk Stocking, or something like that, could be an option. We’ve just got to keep her fresh enough for the 1400.
“I think there’s definitely the right race in her, especially like the big track here (Eagle Farm).
“This probably suits her better than the Gold Coast.
“We’ll just see how she comes through it and make some plans now.”
Tojaki, a tried horse purchase, has now five of nine starts for the stable.
