KENDRICK Racing is showing no signs of slowing down after cracking the 100 winners in a season milestone, saddling up another four on Sunday.
The stable had another day out to remember on the Sunshine Coast poly track, striking early with Targeted (main photo).
Ridden by apprentice Cody Collis, Targeted ($1.14-fav) broke through in a Maiden (1000m) first up from a spell.
Micheal Rodd was onboard for the second winner of the day, Tavistorm ($2-fav), in a Benchmark 62 (2000m).
Collis then booted the final two Kendrick Racing winners of the day home, Spirit Of Brodie and Ioane, giving him a riding treble.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said patience had paid off for the owners of Targeted.
“He’s been a bit of a frustrating wait as he has a lot of ability but has had a lot of problems,” he said.
“He showed he’s got a touch of class with that dominant win. Hopefully, he can now step up to the better three-year-old grade.”
Kendrick said Tavistorm showed his staying ability with a good gutsy win over 2000 metres.
“He ran a very solid second last start and on a quick back-up was too strong, coming from well off the speed to win impressively,” he said.
“He seems to appreciate the poly track, but we are keen to get him up over 2400 metres on a grass track and see where he is at.”
Kendrick said Spirit of Brodie ($4.20), which won a Benchmark 65 (1100m), had done a terrific job this preparation.
“He was unlucky last start at Rockhampton in their feature three-year-old race and show that he has come back with a good win, beating some smart types,” he said.
“Hopefully, there is a nice QTIS three-year-old win in him.”
Ioane ($2.80-fav) won a Benchmark 65 (1400m) and Kendrick said he was a promising horse.
“He won very well first up for the stable, followed by an unlucky run, and then the step up in trip just didn’t suit him last start,” he said.
“We made a few gear changes and he seemed to settle perfectly back to the 1400 and was strong through the line to pick up the leader and win impressively.”
