DEFIANT Boom had not enjoyed much luck in good grade at previous preparations.
He enjoyed a drop back to midweek grade when resuming to break through in a QTIS Maiden Plate at Doomben on Wednesday, July 31,
In the last two-year-old race of the season, Defiant Boom ($1.95-fav) broke through in good style, leading all the way to win by more than a length.
He won at his fifth career start, with three other placings to his credit.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Defiant Boom, which was an emergency for Wednesday’s race before gaining a start, had been gelded.
He said the drop back to midweek company looked ideal for the horse, which had shown plenty of promise without winning.
“(Jockey) Bailey Wheeler took luck out of the equation,” Kendrick said.
“He went straight to the front and won with something in hand,” he said.
“He’ll now head towards a metropolitan race and hopefully continue his winning form.”
