PUNTERS and bookmakers must have overlooked Tavistorm’s fresh record.
The six-year-old, which has won up to 2000 metres, made it three wins from five first-up runs at the Sunshine Coast on Friday night (January 31).
Unwanted in betting to start $12 in the small field, Tavistorm, was too strong, winning a Class 5 (1400m).
Ridden by Kyle Wilson-Taylor, he kept grinding away on the outside to win by a half-length.
“He’s always prominent fresh, and his work’s been really good,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“We were happy with his trial,” he said.
Kendrick told Wilson-Taylor before the race that if he could keep the horse balanced, he was one-paced and would just keep coming all day.
That is how it panned out.
“He rode him perfectly. He got out at the right time, and I think he did a terrific job,” Kendrick said.
“Once he gets over 2000 (metres) I think that’s when we see the best of him, and hopefully we can sneak one in town this time,” he said.
