THE Archer Park colours were prominent when Kendrick Racing saddled up a double in Rockhampton today (August 3).
The first two winners to salute for the stable were Archer Park runners Star Prince (main photo) and Under The Cap (first photo above).
The Krew Racing colours then chimed in for a win with Hard Reyva (above) in the last race of the day to complete the double for Kendrick Racing.
“It was good to get a winning double for Archer Park,” said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
“Star Prince was frustrating last preparation,” he said.
“He always showed plenty on the track, but got lost when the pressure was on race day.
“He has matured and was a close second last start before winning after making a run from near the tail.”
Star Prince ($9), ridden by Jake Bayliss, broke through in a Maiden (1300m) in a tight finish.
There was some post-race drama when he had to survive a protest before being awarded the win.
Kendrick said Under The Cap had been very consistent and loved the Rockhampton track.
“He made it two in a row and will look to try and win another this preparation,” he said.
Also ridden by Bayliss, Under The Cap ($2.50-fav) won a Benchmark 65 (1600m) in another tight go.
It was close finishes all round, with Hard Reyva ($3-fav) also getting his head down at the right time to win the last.
With Bayliss again in the saddle, Hard Reyva won a Benchmark 70 (1300m).
It was his second win in a row around the Rockhampton circuit, having also saluted there in late June. That victory and today’s win were split by a fourth at Doomben last start.
