Maximum Output won a thrilling finish to complete the double.
THE Kendrick Racing-Archer Park-Bailey Wheeler combination showed rivals no mercy with a double at Eagle Farm.
They won with Show My Mercy (main photo) before Maximum Output also scored later in the afternoon.
It was a red-letter day for inform apprentice Wheeler, who rode three winners for the afternoon.
Show No Mercy ($4.60) made it three wins from four career starts with an impressive victory in a 3YO Benchmark 70 (1200m).
The only blemish on his copybook was last start when third over 1000 metres at the same course.
Kendrick said it was disappointing to get beaten last start.
“We’ve always had an opinion of him, and he just did a little bit wrong last week. Bailey said he should have just followed up on the fence and it might have been a different result,” he said.
Wheeler was more forthright.
“The other day was jockey error. I should have stayed on the fence,” he said.
“I’m glad Stuey stuck with me.”
Kendrick said the horse’s sectionals in that third placing were still good.
“We just put the blinkers on Tuesday in his work. Steph who rides him said he’s still like a big kid and she was worried if he got to the front, he’d be waiting for them, which is what he did at the top of the straight,” he said.
“But once he knuckled down and realised he had to finish off he was nice and strong,”
Show No Mercy kicked in the straight to put a gap on them and then held on to win by more than one-and-a-half lengths.
“Hopefully, he just switches right on now and we’ve got a nice horse going forward,” Kendrick said.
“He’s a Magic Millions horse. We’ll obviously try to get enough prize money to get into that Guineas. We’ll see how we go.
“We’re one step closer.”
Maximum Output won a thrilling three-horse finish in a Benchmark 75 (1000m) as a $10 chance.
Kendrick said the win, the horse’s first metropolitan victory, was a well-deserved change of fortune.
“He’d run three placings this preparation before today.”
