LOVE To Torque was the talk of Eagle Farm yesterday after knocking off a red-hot favourite in a two-year-old race.
Ridden by Kyle Wilson-Taylor, Love To Torque ($5.50) settled back in the small field and came with a strong finish to win a QTIS 2YO (1300m) first-up since October last year.
Those left in the wake of the horse in the Krew Racing colours included favourite Atomic Time ($1.45), which could only manage third.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said the horse had shown a lot last time in work.
“We gave her gave her the one of the shorter trip, gave her a spell, came back and thought we’d kick her off over the 1300,” Kendrick said.
“She looks like a filly that will get the mile and eat that up,” he said.
“It was great to get the win first-up. There’s a great bunch of owners in her and they’ve been patient, so very good.”
Kendrick said she had a lovely, big action on her.
“She’s still got a lot of filling out to do. I think she’s going to be a really nice three-year-old filly,” he said.
“Hopefully, into some of those nice staying races down the track. She’s got a really nice pedigree.
“She’s an exciting horse. We’re looking forward to it.”
It wasn’t the first time a Kendrick Racing horse had knocked off a red-hot favourite in town in recent weeks.
The stable has been making a habit of saddling up a metropolitan winner every week for more than a month now.
