NORTHERN road trips for two Kendrick Racing gallopers reaped dividends at the weekend.
Canny Impact (pictured) won at the Rockhampton TAB meeting on Friday (February 24) before Way Beyond won just up the road in Mackay at the Saturday (February 25) meeting.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said both horses had been sent north to grab confidence-building wins.
Canny Impact ($1.80-fav), ridden by Justin Stanley, broke through in a Maiden (1400m) in Rockhampton.
“He hadn’t had much luck at his previous couple of runs,” Kendrick said.
“He was well ridden by Justin Stanley and finished strongly,” he said.
“Hopefully, he gained the confidence to go on to more wins.”
Way Beyond ($2.25-fav), ridden by Les Tilley, won a Benchmark 65 (1560m) in Mackay, despite lumping 63kg.
“He’d been very consistent around here (south-east Queensland), but we wanted to drop back in class to get a win on the board,” Kendrick said.
“He had to carry a big weight, but finished well to get the win,” he said.
“He could be a nice country cups type.”
