Orca, ridden by Jackson Murphy, completed the
double when he won at $51.
KENDRICK Racing and jockey Jackson Murphy have combined for a double in Rockhampton, including one that saluted at more than $50.
The combination won the first on Tuesday (August 29), a Maiden (1500m), with Deal An Ace (main photo), which started $2.80 favourite.
They then bobbed up two races later, but this win by Orca in a QTIS 3YO Maiden (1200m) was a much bigger surprise to punters.
Orca ($51) won a tight finish at his third career start to pick up the QTIS bonus and a good return on the punt for anyone who backed him.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said Orca was a lovely yearling by Vancouver, but had disappointed in his first preparation.
“He had since jumped out well, but then was only average in a trial,” he said.
“However, with the addition of the blinkers, he showed good improvement to win.”
Kendrick said Deal An Ace’s win was well deserved.
“He has been very consistent, but hasn’t had a lot of luck in his races,” he said.
“He was well ridden by Jackson Murphy and showed his toughness to win on the line.”
