THERE is always an extra thrill from a win on Melbourne Cup Day.
So, there was double the excitement when Kendrick Racing saddled up two winners at the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday.
The stable had ventured south to Sydney with two runners at the Melbourne Cup Royal Randwick meeting.
And Maximum Output (fifth) and Menazzi (fourth) acquitted themselves well, although not managing to sneak into the placings.
But back at Caloundra, the stable again secured more home-track success.
Torque Leica Star (main photo) got the ball rolling in a Benchmark 55 (2200m), despite being on a slow surface not really to her liking.
Ridden by Ryan Wiggins, Torque Leica Star ($2.40-fav) snuck through between runners and held on to win on the line.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said it was a well-deserved victory.
“She has been very consistent and, with a good ride from Ryan Wiggins, she held on for a satisfying win,” he said.
“She doesn’t like the wet but was still good over the 2200 metres.”
Later in the afternoon, Money Man ($7), ridden by apprentice Jasper Franklin, completed the double by winning a Benchmark 55 (1300m).
“He was impressive in a strong win,” Kendrick said.
“He travelled very well coming to the turn before getting checked and going back to the inside,” he said.
“He had to knuckle down in the slower part of the track but was still too good.
“It was good to see Jasper keep up his good form for the stables with another win.”
