TORQUE Leica Star pulled off a boilover win at big odds on the Gold Coast poly track.
Ridden by apprentice Cody Collis, Torque Leica Star won a Benchmark 60 (1900m) as a $26 chance on Saturday (June 29).
Although the win took punters by surprise, trainer Stuart Kendrick wasn’t as shocked.
“It was satisfying to get the win for some very patient and loyal owners,” Kendrick said.
“She has had no luck her last couple of starts, especially last start when she went for a gap and nearly got put over the fence,” he said.
Torque Leica Star again didn’t have any favours in the run but managed to arrive along the inside just in time on the line.
“She came from last and had to weave a passage through and then sprinted hard the last 200 metres,” Kendrick said.
“She loves the poly track and will be hard to beat again next start over a similar distance,” he said
