TRAINER Stuart Kendrick won’t have to duck incoming missiles after Uncomplicated’s win on debut.
He admitted the win in a 2YO Maiden (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, April 1, was a “bit of a surprise” after only trialling fairly.
“I’ve got a couple of good mates I put into this filly and I think they were ready to throw stones at me a couple of times, so it was good to get that win for them,” Kendrick said.
“She showed us a bit early and she’d been a bit disappointing in a couple of trials and tipped her out,” he said.
“She came back. I thought her trial the other day was okay.
“She got beaten a fair way but hit the line well.
“It was really good to see her do that today.”
Uncomplicated ($41), ridden by Dale Smith, was back near the rear after beginning slowly from an awkward gate but kept making ground along in inside in the straight.
She dove through late and stuck her neck out at the right time in a blanket finish.
Kendrick has a reputation for success with cheap horses.
He bought Uncomplicated for $3000 via an online sale.
