UNDER The Cap replicated his feature Rockhampton race win of two starts back when he flew home late to win at the Sunshine Coast.
Ridden by James Orman, Under The Cap ($3.60) was eighth at the 400 metres but finished strongly to win by a length in a Class 5 (1400m) on Sunday (May 19).
It was reminiscent of his triumph in a $100,000 feature race at Rockhampton over 1300 metres late last month.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said he was never tempted to try to push forward on Under The Cap, even though the first couple of races on the slow track with the rail out seemed to favour leaders.
He said he instructed Orman to not change the horse’s pattern of racing and hope the others in the field pushing forward made enough pace for him to finish over the top of them.
“He (Orman) rode him perfectly.”
Under The Cap had failed to fire at Eagle Farm between the two wins.
But Kendrick said the horse had now had two starts at Eagle Farm and didn’t “seem to go an inch” there.
“It was great to see him bounce back,” he said.
“He was only a cheapie and he’s been a good horse for the Archer Park team.”
Under The Cap now has five wins and five placings from 17 career starts and more than $160,000 in prizemoney.
